We came here for breakfast and it was horrible. Everything we ordered was oily. We had the simple splash - sausage, 2 eggs over medium, and potatoes- crabcakes and eggs- the crab cakes were cooked from frozen, it was not fresh at all! We had to dab the excess oil with a napkin!

The breakfast is great with good portions and good price for Hawaii. Try the stuffed french toast! It is absolutely delicious!

The kids loved the baby back ribs and calamari. If it were up to them, Splashers would get 5 stars, but I didn't really like my ahi. It was supposed to be seared, but it was more like medium rare. The rice and veggies were just okay.

The $3 mai tai sign pulled us in. We had just arrived in Kona after a rather difficult beginning of our trip involving night driving on a windy highway 11 that resulted in a flipped SUV and a visit to Kona Community Hospital (potential review to come). We knew the rest of our trip was going to involve very little movement, lots of laying around on the beach, and an over-indulgence in food and alcohol. We started it off right at Splasher's. Their fish tacos were absolutely incredible. The fresh ono was cooked perfectly and was tender and flaky. There was a healthy portion of fish topped with delicious salsa and just the perfect amount of cheese. The curly fries were equally delicious. Although Splasher's isn't much to look at, it has some of the best fish I had on the island. The mai tais were strong and cheap and very easy to drink, maybe too easy? We sat outside in the sun, overlooking the water. We were there for hours. The waitress came over and talked with us for a while and had some recommendations of other places to eat, drink, and beaches to lay around at. The next day we came back for the ono fish wrap. Just as good of an experience. If you are in Kona, don't pass up Splasher's!

Aside from not seating us where we wanted we were very impressed. Most of the places we have eaten on this island have been blaahh food and service even the nice places. This was a refreshing experience. The Ono fish and chips we amazing by far the best I have ever had. I ordered this this meal very cautiously bc it is usually pretty boring dish. My wife had the half Lbs burger which I ate half of and it was a top class burger. To top it off the service was really good the waitress was super friendly.

Splashers Bar (and restaurant) was located just across the street from our hotel and we visited it on a few occasions, covering breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast was large and plentiful (free coffee too), lunch varied and filling, and dinner was wonderful (we ate some of the daily specials and weren't disappointed). The staff are friendly and if you visit more than once, don't forget to ask for your 10% discount!

The view from the patio was nice. I had the crab cakes which were a little too bready. My husband had the fish tacos which were pretty good. Overall, I would say that the food was average --nothing particularly spectacular.

We were looking for the Aki Cafe and just couldn't find it, so we just decided to eat here bc there were lotsa of people at this place. It turns out that this was Aki's before and these owners brought the cafe 3 years ago. We had breakfast there and shared a breakfast burrito for $10. It was delicious and it was monster size!!!!. The view overlooking the ocean was wonderful! Large portions and great prices. I wished I went back to try the cheeseburgers, bc the owner said that was what they are known for on the menu. The staff was very nice too!

Four of us had breakfast. Good view of kailua bay, and had a good hostess. Three of us had pancakes which were huge. They were somewhat heavy. They charged $1.00 for sprinkle of macademia nuts!!! The hostess recommended prime rib dinner which is only served on Friday and Saturday. We may go back again in the future.

We came here upon recommendation from our snorkeling excursion folks as we wanted to get some good grub. They had good onion rings and seasoned waffle fries. Of course, everything tasted better after several hours of swimming. But, it was located just off the road near the pier. Fish sandwiches were very fresh and very good. Yum!

Great burgers and a great location. Sitting outside you have a view of the ocean, a little bit of shoreline and lots of passing pedestrians and traffic. The service was friendly too. Perfect for a simple lunch or dinner.

We didn't eat here for anything other than dinner but the Seafood pasta was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten! And I mean the exclamation point!! Seriously, it was awesome. I just wanted to keep eating but I couldn't handle more than half of it. My compliments to the chef. The ordering from the counter thing was a little weird and wasn't sure how to tip but got over it after dinner.

We were sent here for 'the best Burger of our lives' when Kona Brewing Co was closed and I'll suffice it to say it fell short. Really short. Burger was over-cooked (burned on the outside) and about 60% of the size of the bun, the pile of fresh jalapenos on the burger had zero zip or heat, I have no idea how that happens. Fries were ok. Maybe we just hit it at an off time, but we were not impressed at all. Flies and begging birds abounded. We were constantly fending them off - a fly trap in the corner maybe would have helped? Sort of in a tacky beach shack area with lots of trinket shops around it.

Best place to grab a bite to eat and a drink on Alili drive. Hands down. The staff here was super friendly, the view was absolutely worth it no matter what time of day, the burgers were large and delicious.

  • Venessa G.

If you're in the mood for a great burger, this is the place to go. I wasn't at all a fan of any of the more pricey restaurants along Alii Dr. (the main touristy strip) - they are pricey for the view, not the food. Eat here, and then go enjoy the view. The service was probably the best I had on the entire island - unfortunately the bar is set pretty low in my opinion. Tip for Kona restaurants: be nicer to the tourists! They're your livelihood after all!!

  • H B.

Mmmm! SO good! The fish sandwiches are the best and they're big enough for 2! I ate here a bunch of times on my last trip! Service was hit and miss. One of the young gals was unusually unfriendly but the other waitresses were great.

  • Jake H.

I had the Blackened Ono Taco and they were good. It seems like they are the best thing on the menu here. The staff was nice and got us seated as fast as possible and the view was great.

Our hungry small group of five spent the day at the beach and needed some good food. Splasher's was the perfect lunch! Great margaritas Great Blacken Ono Tacos Average Fish and Chips Amazing Service I'd eat hear again in a heartbeat!

Had an "ono" lunch at the new Splasher's, which is now across from the King Kam Hotel...the "spicy" Grilled Jalapeno Burger was perfect...my dining companions raved about their Fish Tacos and the Kona Philly Cheese Steak "Splashwich"...and they lived near Philly...a complete review will be on westhawaiifoodie.blogspo… .

I must agree with everybody else, the splashers burger was probably one of the best burgers i have had in... forever. Can't beat the location.

Great food, drinks, service and view...........what more does one need! The prime rib is fantastic! Cooked to perfection and served with a great mashed or stuffed baked potato. No room fotr dessert! Staff iis friendly and accomodating.

I came here for happy hour and to try the food because of the excellent yelp reviews. Unfortunately, I got charged for full price drinks because I was 8 min early. To quote Kunu from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, "I stopped wearing a watch when I came to Hawaii." We thought it had already hit happy hour, and when I had already got charged full price for my 2 beers, and inquired why it wasn't happy hour pricing, the bartender laughed at me, almost in a malicious mocking way. Oh well. I'm sure he wasn't being intentionally mean to me, but he also wasn't very friendly to me either, so we took our business elsewhere. Everything in Hawaii is expensive, and I wasn't about to give this place anymore of my hard earned cash! It's right on the street, which provides good views of the ocean, but I just wasn't getting good enough vibes from the bartender to stay and eat here.

This was a nice place. It was recommended by a shop keeper. They had good portion sizes and friendly service.

We stopped here for our last meal on the Kona side of the Island after driving up and down Ali'i Drive looking for something to stand out. Nothing hit the stand out part about Splashers, but we decided to test it out for the "best burger." We get upstairs and get seated (no longer a small restaurant on the ground floor). The decor is a bit tacky, but not horribly so, open air on three sides, which is nice. The special of the day was teriyaki chicken, which sounded better than a half-pound burger, so I ordered it. It was simply the *best* teriyaki chicken I have ever eaten, bar none. Service was a bit slow, but, hey, you're on an island. Deal with it! On top of the great food and ocean breeze, there was a great view of Ahu'ena Heiau. The Hawaiian temple where King Kamehameha I spent the last years of his life (thus the name of King Kamehameha's hotel, next to the heiau). Great place to snap some telephoto pictures from while eating an awesome meal and drinking a semi-decent mai tai.

Not cheap, but killer food. Try the Ono fish tacos. Cold beers and fresh food. The kids menu is standard. The family enjoyed their huge burgers, too.

Yelp is a great; it found this great diner for us. My husband wanted fish tacos, and we were directed here. Unfortunately it was on a Sunday, and they were out of tortillas (no bread delivery), so we settled for hamburgers. The waitress told us it would be the best last meal of our trip and she was right :) Bon Appetit!

WORST BREAKFAST IV EVER HAD ordered country fried steak with potatoes and eggs first off IT WASNT STEAK it wasnt even hamburger patty!!!! it was just some sort of disgusting nasty mush with teeny tiny pieces of what looked like hamburger in it. the gravy was saltless and slapped on there like pigfood the potatoes were cut so thick that they werent cooked all the way through. i told my mom they werent even spiced and she thought they were because of the BLACK stuff on them, clearly the chefs hadnt cleaned the frying pan before making them!! the eggs were so burnt they were brown on one side, which they tried to cover up with soggy toast. and on top of that there is about 6 parking spaces in their 'private lot', and if you park in the hotel parking lot right next to the cafe they will not validate your ticket. apparently your supposed to sit and wait for one of their 6 parking lot spaces to open up? the hostess was extremely rude when i asked her to validate my ticket, tlling me with a snotty look on her face that "they dont do that." they do not carry any local fresh produce, you can taste and see that everything is precooked, frozen, and simply heated up. they know nothing about using spices and herbbs, its all greasy and nasty OVERPRICED FOR NOTHING. my god. could there BE a worse resturaunt?!

We went here for breakfast one morning and got the stuffed French toast. Definitely does not disappoint! I will be stopping by Splasher's the next time I'm in Kona! We stayed at the King Kamehameha hotel and Splasher's is right across the street. The open air dining was very casual and relaxed.

  • Patrick M.

Splasher's was convenient as it was located right by our hotel. I thought I would order some fish and chips, but was told that they were out of the batter. I opted for the fish tacos instead. They were decent, they had cheese on them which I'm not used to and didn't care for, and they came with regular as opposed to cabbage which I prefer. The tacos came with a kinda sad portion of french fries. The server was really friendly and attentive. Overall not a great value for the price. The view overlooking the pier is nice though.

    (3)
  • Speed R.

Great food. I had the seared ahi. It was a bit too cooked but overall it was good. We sat at a corner table and had a great view. On the bad side, the service was very slow, but the people were kind.

  • Siao W.

Ughhh....Please avoid all of these lame restaurants with flashy neon lights that try to trap tourists on Alii Drive. These places are for people with no culinary sense or culture. You can get the same food at Applebee's at whatever part of the country you're from. The burger was heavily salted and peppered. No real beef taste. The onion rings were heavily battered, but were under seasoned. The fish tacos were 70 percent salsa and lettuce. Any flavor of the "ono" was completely drowned out by the salsa and lettuce. A cup of salsa and a cup of lettuce per taco probably means that they are trying to cover up the poor quality of fish. The fries were probably the only edible thing on the menu. The only people who enjoy places like this are those who won't eat anything unless it's been frozen and deep fried.

  • Alex W.

Decent food for a decent price on the leeward side. $10~$20

    (3)
  • Aaron M.

The 4 stars is for breakfast. It is probably the best one in town. Reasonable prices, good food, free coffee, pleasant outdoor setting. Lunch is just ok and much less of a deal. View is the same though. I notice a review on here complaining that the country fried steak isn't steak. I haven't had Splashers' and can't say if it is good or not. But, um, country fried steak is never steak...

    (4)
  • Brian G.

Reasonable prices, great food, nice view. Service was good (my water cup never went empty, my litmus test). Half pound burger with nice warm, soft bun. Kids menu had the basics. I wanted to return but too many restaurants, too little time. Will be back next time.

  • Bruce B.

We were staying at the King Kamehameha hotel across the street from Splasher's and we went there after we settled in. Splashers is your run of the mill, seaside restaurant, located on the second floor of a building say that you have a nice ocean view. The food was okay, review was great and the service was pretty good. I ordered a simple Cheeseburger and onion rings And a strawberry mojito. The burger was okay, and the mojito was very good. But the Mango cheesecake was a disappointment. Prices for okay overall a decent meal.

Went twice. Once for dinner and once for breakfast. Good service good food. Worth the money compared to many other options on Alii drive. I would definitely go back again. Prime rib great and so were the macadamia nut pancakes.

  • Andrew L.

The bar is certainly nothing special, and actually smells a little funky, the food is well above average. The fish and chips are some of the best I've ever had and their nachos appetizer is rather epic. Our waiter was a little short on patience, helpfulness and personality, but we weren't there to make friends.

    (4)
  • Diane E.

My friend and I had lunch here on Friday. I had the fish wrap and my friend had the fish tacos. The wrap was okay, but too much tortilla and not enough fish.

    (3)
  • Darryl K.

We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. Finally, we were seated at a table with a fantastic ocean view. My family found the food very 'blah'. The chicken was a little tough and tasteless, the corn was bland, the lattice fries had potential but arrived cold. The burger bun was nice and fresh, but the burger itself was not great. Even the pineapple was lacklustre. The kids had chicken strips. They were nice and crunchy, but tasted just 'okay'. Overall, not a bad place to eat at considering the modest price, but we have no plans to return.

  • Adrienne P.

This is my favorite spot for happy hour and the fish and chips! Great customer service, awesome food and friendly faces always.

    (5)
  • Kimthy D.

The only reason I'm giving this place a two star instead of one is because the waitress offered a free dessert for being a horrible waitress (which we didn't even take because we didn't want to be there any longer). The restaurant did not acknowledging we were there and I was getting ready to get up and leave. Not only did they take forever to come to us, she took forever to come grab my credit card after she dropped off the check. My bf and I decided to just leave cash and she's lost out some more tip. It was just a bad experience over all and our fish and chips although were a good portion, were dry. Fries tasted better. We are service oriented ourselves, so we understand but the restaurant wasn't even busy... it was a dead Sunday night.

    (2)
  • Joani D.

The view is killer, the food is really-really good as well as the serviceand the new updates to the restaurant are super too and free coffee with your entre.......the only sad thing about the place is they stopped playing Hawaiian music which is ONE of the things we loved about going there. They've joined in with too many of the other places to eat on Alii with the rock 'n roll......come on.....give us back the island spirit.

Great place to grub after a morning full of kayaking and snorkeling for us tourists! This place was first introduced to me by a staff member at the Alamo car rental at the airport (random I know). But she highly recommended it and we're glad she did! I ordered the FISH TACOS - very fresh, tender and tasty. They came with a side of waffle fries which were glorious and always a win in my book! My husband had the day's special burger which had bacon and avocado and happily devoured it. We sat on the balcony and had a good view of the area and beach/ocean. Our server and hostess were very nice and our food came out in a timely manner. We parked in a lot nearby that's $5 every 2hrs, but if you return w/in the 2hrs and provide a receipt from a local business you get your $5 back. Sweet!

  • Lucy K.

Not too shabby! This is another place right across the street from the King Kamahamea hotel. Hole in the wallish but not bad. Came here for dinner on our first night and I had some Ono that tasted fresh and delish. I also had a hurricane drink which was nice and strong! We came the next day for breakfast which really wasn't anything special. They are a bit over priced for the type of food they are serving but were definitely an easy spot to hop into for some simple eats.

    (3)
  • Karen Y.

"The place where the locals eat!" Yeah, I don't know about that when you're right on the street filled with the tourist hotels, but you have an amazing view and good food to boot! They have veggie patties as an option for the burgers which I got. A Hawaiian burger of course with onion rings. Why not, I'll diet when I'm home. The burger comes on a giant bun. Like 6in in diameter bun! Good thing I shared with my mom. The onion rings were good too and left pools of oil on my plate, but only to be expected of onion rings. The burger itself was delicious! Maybe it was the fresh pineapple and teriyaki sauce and fluffy giant bun all melding flavors but it was so tasty. Even though I hate eating at places near touristy areas, this place was delicious. Maybe locals do come here after all.

Best fish tacos - ate them 4 times while in Kona. Blood Mary's are nice and spicy. Wish the music they play at night was more up to date tho.

Breakfast = disappointing Our server was terrible first of all. Coffee comes with the purchase of a meal, that was nice. I ordered the crab cake benedict with rice. Didn't get my rice.... and the server NEVER came back to check on us. I had to flag down another waitress who was very nice by the way and she took care of me. The benedict tasted...OK. I think there was something off about the hollandaise sauce but I cannot put my finger on it. Let's just say I didn't finish half of my meal and I LOVE crab cake benedicts.... I don't even remember what my boyfriend ordered. Not memorable. The couple behind us was talking about how they advertised the fruit for order as "exotic" and that being said..I think most people would assume that you get good local pineapple, mango, etc. Nah...melon and grapes. Generic. I think they need to change that on their menu. Only nice thing about this place was the location, loved eating on an open porch.

    (2)
  • Shiloh R.

GORGEOUS view, super-sweet staff, and delicious food! I got the eggs benedict with tomato and avocado--YUM! Came with hashbrowns and I asked for fruit on the side, yum yum yum. Probably the best food I've had in Kona town. Hope to be back again at some point!

  • Jeremy N.

We found Splasher's on Yelp and the last 9-10 reviews were really positive so we decided to give it a shot since most places in Kona have their share of people who apparently expected gourmet cuisine at beach diners. Anyways.... We really enjoyed our late lunch at Splasher's. We shared the Catch 22 (blackened Ono on a sesame bun with all the regular trimmings with a fish sandwich). The fish was delicious, the bread was super fresh and it was all around a great sandwich. We also got a side salad and waffle fries. Both were solid and we had nothing to complain about. The hostess and our server were pleasant and the waitress came around just enough - the service all around was good. We sat along the south ledge and enjoyed people watching and the view of the harbor. We would go back!

First time at this establishment. The bartender said the fish tacos were "awesome". I love a good taco and these were sub par. No sauce just salsa and a touch greasy. Just so so!

Stopped on for lunch and had the fish tacos. They were delicious and they staff was super friendly. After seeing the burgers and hearing others talk about them, I'd love to go back and try one.

This place has the most a-ma-zing fried Ono Fish - I have recommended to all my friends and co-workers, they have been there and loved it too ... I'm not sure how the other dishes are but the one I tasted won my heart: Captain's Platter: Lightly breaded golden fried Ono (I think its 2-3 pieces med size), a skewer of jumbo prawns grilled in lemon garlic butter, a crab cake (big) and they give you the options for veggies & rice pilaf or fries. I got the fries. They give you 2 sauces a light silky ranch and cocktail I believe .... The fish is so good and fresh you do not need any sauce but the sauce is also delicious, I had to ask for more I was even dipping my fries in it. I can still remember the taste of the fish and my mouth waters is by far my favorite dish, the fish is unbelievable, is fried but it feels light, crunchy, cooked perfect! ... The crab cake was good and was big, the prawns are so fresh I usually put lemon on them this didn't need it. You won't be disappointed. The service could have been better but after tasting the food I did not longer cared, I ordered a soda to drink but they have several beer options. The place is a small local very low key, relax ambience and it has ocean view, what else can you ask for. Excellent food and view Every time I go back to Kona, is a mandatory stop! LOVE IT!

We stopped in here while waiting for a water excursion..honestly i was worried it was a tourist trap w/ subpar food..i was wrong!!!! Everything we had was amazing! The calamari app was like nothing ive ever had before, HUGE strips of tender calamari w/ a yummy creamy lime sauce! My ONO salad was to die for, fresh fish on a huge bed of greens w/ veggies, it was so well seasoned, i skipped the dressing. My husband had a burger he said was cooked perfectly and also, huge. Ive actually craved that salad and have been back since! It was the first restaurant we stopped in Kona on our Hawaiin vacation and we couldnt have been more pleased!

Went for both breakfast and dinner. The breakfast was greasy but enjoyable. We wanted to sit and enjoy our cup of coffee but the hostess kept circling our table when we got our check. Beautiful view. For dinner I ordered Fish N Shrimp. I have never eaten so dry shrimp before. Don't order the Fish N Shrimp. My friend said his dish was delicious, the captains platter.

Spalshers is A-OK. You can't go wrong with most of what you order, it won't be gourmet, but it will satisfy your taste buds. This place is a go-to stop for most people passing through Kona and they have good burgers.

Service - excellent. Fast and pleasant. Atmosphere - beautiful! Relatively quiet. Beautiful view of pier and ocean. Food - very good! Lots of variety on the menu and big portions. Well prepared. Loved the salsa! Get the house potatoes not the hash browns. Fruit was fresh and nice size portion. FREE coffee! Can't beat that. And, she brought a carafe which got points. All in all I would highly recommend.

Ordered mai tai's. Not sure what happened but mine had rum, my husbands didn't. You didn't need to taste them to tell the difference, you could see the difference between the two. Order chicken sandwich with avocado, no avocado. Looked over the menu, many items with avocado. My suggestion, with a menu selection with avocado items, you shouldn't run out of avocados early in the day. Calamari and fries lacked as well. Patrons ordered burgers, my husband said they looked good. Probably wouldn't spend my money here again.

Excellent chicken "machos". The chicken was shredded and extremely moist and flavorful. Not too spendy. Mahi mahi was a little dry and had apple sauce on top, is that strange to anyone else? Not fond of fish murals on a side note.

Good food, good drinks, followed by a good tasty treat ... good god lets eat. Right across from Kailua Pier. Home of the 1/2 pound burger. Where locals meat to eat. Highly recommending the blackened ono fish tacos, definitely add the avocado. They used to make a delicious frozen mai tai at their old location, wish those were still around.

Splasher's isn't bad for a touristy restaurant on Ali'i drive. The portions are huge--it's definitely a good spot to go and fill up if you're hungry from an active day of splashing in the ocean. I had the fish tacos, which were heaped with so much fish there was no way one could reasonably fold them up and eat them with one's hands. I had to fork it. I'm deducting a star though because they charge an extra dollar for avocado--and I had to hunt and peck to find a few slivers of avocado in my tacos. These things literally grow on trees around here. I expected a lot more avocado for being charged extra (even if it was only $1). The tacos come with fries (weird, right?), but they were excellent--hot and tasty. I had their special margarita and a mai tai. Both were good and not too sweet. Unfortunately the service wasn't the best. I had to wait around a bit before someone helped me--I think I must have arrived right at a shift change and got lost in the shuffle. Honestly, the atmosphere is a little lacking. The place is looking pretty dated and worn around the edges. There's a nice view of the bay, but it faces south and King Kamehameha hotel is to the west, so you won't get to catch the sunset.

Been here a few times and services was always good, food was good and nice place to have lunch. Don't try the coconut martini it was served warm yuck! Get rid of the male bartender, for almost 10.00 a martini served warm was very dissatisfied and the drinks seemed a bit watered down... I brought my boss here and I didn't want to complain but when you spend over 250.00 on lunch for four people you kinda get irritated when your drink shows up Luke warm and the bar is about 10 ft from your table!

this is a good place, great location, great atmosphere, and good food! after I checked in hotel (Marriott) I wanted to get a bit to eat, and this place was right across the hotel.... I immediately thought it will be either expensive or not good.... especially after I had bad experience with one of the restaurant's in this area last time I stayed here.... I walked around.....didn't see anything attractive that caught my eye, and decided to give this place a chance..... i ordered "fish taco's", first I got salad I added for $4, it was pretty good.... and then fish-tacos arrived kind of fast.... tacos were good, plenty of wish on taco's.... I got them "blackened", great choice!!!! I ordered extra fries, as I was sitting outside.... it was very pretty here...... nice lookout on waterfront, small wind once in a while..... and nice music playing, not any if that r&b or rap.....crap.... ....only thing I didn't like I'd that soda wasn't as good as I expected, but that not a huge turn-off, it wasn't super horrible, just tasted kind of watery....like a nit too much water was added..... it was drinkable......

I visited Kona in January and ended up eating at Splasher's Grill a couple of times. Their loco moco was excellent, as was their French toast. The service was quick and very friendly, and the atmosphere was excellent as well with the open air seating that is right across the street from the beach.

Monday, 9:30PM. Nighttime here is not minatory, so the five of us cruised near our condo. Even the most tremulous of the group couldn't prevent us from searching Hawaiian comfort food. Quickie: +Generous portions (even for my capacious stomach) +Good food +Fast turn-around after the order +Less than 50 feet from the ocean, grubbed to the waves gently brushing on shore - talk about rhythm baby! Final call: Signage: "Best burger in West Hawaii." We'd believe it. ********** Mo' 4-1-1 on stuffing my face: 1. Chipotle Bacon Cheeseburger +Juicy, greasy, huge (TWSS!) 2. Avocado, turkey melt - Bland: meat was unflavored and avocado had no consistency 3. Onion rings - Mostly batter, onion lost flavor 4. Curly fries +Bad for your heart, good for the (taste) buds

We ate here with some local friends. This is one of their favorite places. Sitting outside in the evening and not being cold is great after a very short winter in Tahoe. Mai Tai's were flavorful but a little light on the liquor. I had the Mahi Tacos. Wonderful. Great flavors and the fish was very fresh. It should be since the water is 30 yards away. My wife had the Macadamia nut Mahi. Good flavors with a fruity sauce.

After a long day of shopping around Kona we decided to have dinner at Splashers grill because I was feeling something meaty. For an appetizer, we ordered the seafood chowder, which my bf immediately inhaled...as for me I enjoyed it slowly and actually taste the chowder...In my opinion it was a bit buttery. I guess I'm just sensitive to butter lol. I had the BBQ ribs and chicken....which was okay...nothing special because it tasted like any bbq sauce at any restaurant. Still good and the portions huge! My bf ordered the fish of the day, the sword fish blackened. I tried a piece and it was a bit too dry for me. The texture was weird and I didn't like it. Though like most of the restaurants around there, splashers grill also had a nice view of the ocean.

I ate breakfast here 3 times and ordered a different plate each time. The food was delicious and our waiters were great. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones aside from the other comments about their waiters. I loved the coffee and the different types of creamer they offered. It was a nice surprise to see Hazlenut creamer (my fave!). TIP: The French Toast is the best!

Free coffee with the purchase of breakfast! A side order of bagel came with a generous sized tub of cream cheese, a slice of pineapple and a slice of watermelon. All for $3.50. Not too shabby. I'm used to the smaller eaters in my family being discriminated against for ordering from the "sides" menu, but this was more than enough food for the wee one. For $11: The veggie omelet came with seasoned potatoes cooked just right and a savory salsa. They have moved to a bigger location just down the street. They're across the street from the King Kamehameha Hotel and across the street from the pier. Nice view of the ongoing tsunami repair work on the seawall and sidewalk.

Ono spinach wrap, shrimp platter, fish tacos, fries and onion rings were all better than average. Food coupled with almost a superior view make this a comfortable fun lunch venue. However! The waitress not only went MIA--couldn't find her for lemons (which ultimately she brought pinched between two fingers) or to replace my daughter's fruit punch (tasted like cough syrup) with lemonade. She also had what could have been the face of a woman who just fought with her husband and was trying to shrug it off. Bathrooms made you consider the value of hygiene.

This is a surprisingly good place. Yes, it's catered towards tourists, with their balcony seating and mainstream beer selections. But how can one complain about balcony seating in beautiful Hawai'i, especially with a nice view of the ocean? And it's conveniently located. We ordered the fish tacos . . . twice. Yes, it was plenty good to warrant a return trip. And they do well with their fryer -- specifically, we had a side of onion rings which were also quite good. Get a cold beer to wash it all down, and you're in a good state of mind. The waitress was professional and very competent.

Ordered take out for breakfast. Had the pancake breakfast which cost 10.99. It wasn't worth it. Plus Chris, the bartender who took my order and helped me when I got there was rude both on the phone and in person as well. On the phone he couldn't tell me how many slices of bacon was in my order and in person he didn't even say a single word to me. He was busy concentrating on two women eating their breakfast at the bar. After he gave me my order, he still didn't say a single word to me, not even a "Thank you". Poor service and the breakfast I ordered I could have gotten it at McDonald's. Would not return there or recommend it to anyone.

We went to try the fish tacos and the captain's platter that others thought were good. We were afraid to try the burgers after seeing them delivered to others. Food was barely ok. The fish in the tacos and on the captain's platter was tough and over cooked. The shrimp on captain's platter had barely any seasoning and was also over cooked and tough. The crabcake was decent. Service was ok, though Kayla, our server, needs to learn the difference between a wedge and a slice when it comes to lemon. The hostess wanted to seat us in the back, and when we asked if we could sit closer to the front, she said that that table was for bigger parties and she'd have to ask her manager if she could split the two tables. So instead she offered to clean off another table which had just become vacant - though not as close to the front. (To note, after we were seated, they split the other table and sat another couple there with no issues. So why was there a problem seating us there?!?) Price wasn't worth it for the quality of the food. If you're looking for a good burger on the big island - make the drive to Waimea / Kamuela and go to Village Burger. Best food we had in the island! They grind their own locally grown beef and cook to order. And the staff there is super friendly. It's worth the drive!!!

The beer battered fish & chips is wonderful! The beer in the batter is Longboard & the batter is light & tasty. We got onion rings instead of fries & they are now my #2 favorite onion rings ever! The drink they call a Hawaii Shoreline is great! Happy hour prices are beyond reasonable, just 6 bucks for a drink that is usually 7.50. Great waitstaff & just a great place to sit. Open air & a great place to be where you can watch how long the line is getting for heading back to your cruise ship.

Great place to grab a beer. It's towards the start/end of Ali'i drive, came here after the lua'u to unwind some more before heading back to our condo. Would probably try to come back to try out some of their food, but we were already stuffed from pigging out at the lua'u.

I was torn between 4 and 5 stars... I truly give it a 4.5, because the food and location were excellent and MOST of the service was great. In my trip to Kona, I went to Splasher's twice because I was staying across the street at the King Kamehameha hotel. I loved the view of the water, being up on the 2nd level . I was able to watch the double hull paddling race starts and finishes from a birds eye view. The food was great, I wish that they had a place like this on Oahu. I had the fish tacos on my first trip. My friends enjoyed their 1/2 pound burgers, although they were not able to finish them. They were BIG! On my second trip to Splasher's, we went for breakfast, and I had the breakfast tacos with eggs, potatoes, cheese, and sausage - yum! I also tried my friends' food: omelette with avocado, bacon, and cheese, sweet bread french toast (with a blueberry/ cream cheese topping - YUMMMMM!), and the breakfast burrito (it was giant!!). The only gripe I had was that on our second trip there, they forgot about our table and it took a while to get our food... my poor hung over friends were suffering. Our servers ranged from okay to excellent - most of them were very friendly and had lots of aloha.

After driving across Saddle road to get to Kona side from Hilo Mr Smidgens was ready for some great tasting food. I figured I would just drive down near the Pier on Palani and not be disappointed. I was right!! I parked near the shops and walked upstairs to Splasher's where I was greeted by smiles. I took a seat at the bar and met Manny the bartender. He served me an ice cold Big Wave beer. So good once it hits your lips. I ordered the fish tacos which are two fresh corn tortillas stuffed with Ono fish, lettuce, tomato, and shredded cheese. I added fresh avocado to mine. MSOMG (Mr. Smidgens Oh My God)!!!! I took my first bite and said MMMMM!!! Out loud. A few peeps at the bar turned around and smiled. The fresh Ono and the avocado with the flavor from the corn tortillas were enough to make a grown man cry. I hear that they used to be downstairs in a smaller location. The Splasher's I now know and love is located at 75-5699 Alii Dr Just above the shops across from the pier on Palani. They are open 7am-9pm with full service and the Tiki bar is open until 11pm. Happy hour is 3pm to 7pm. Mr. Smidgens says NOM..NOM. NOM..NOM

This was the very first place we ate on the island as it came recommended by the gal from Enterprise...especially since the Outrigger races were going on and she said we'd have a good view. Which we did. The place is known for their burgers so we burgered and french fried it up. I'd recommend that if you and your dining companion can agree on one to split it - they are huge! The seasoned waffle fries were IMHO delicious - and although the burger was good and very tasty, I wouldn't say it's trumped others elsewhere (Fuddrucker's has ruined me!) The staff was super friendly; all in all a decent score.

The open-air second-story porch offers wonderful views of people and water, with a few torches thrown in at night. Has a fun and lively party atmosphere. We've eaten there a couple times on trips to Kona, and generally been happy with the food, especially since with such a good location they could probably get away with serving worse stuff. We happened on a week where many restaurants in Kailua were offering special discounts on three-course meals, and so we ordered from that menu. The ahi bruschetta was great; the ahi cooked just right, and the bread accompanied by a nice tomato spread. My wife ordered the tomato and mozzarella salad, and while i was too salty to my tastes, she was very happy. For entrees I got a stuffed ono that was sort of routine, though the ono sure tasted fresh, while my wife got chicken picatta with capers and lemon sauce that she enjoyed. We requested our desserts to go, and that's where things fell apart; it took a long time for one to arrive, and then when I pointed out that as two people we ought to get two desserts, it took a long time for the other to arrive. Then it wasn't until I got back to the hotel that I realized both were prepared wrong. So I can definitely pick up on how other reviewers have identified spotty service; if you get good service, great, and if not, no surprise and just something to accept for coming here.

My husband and I spent one night in Kailua this last weekend and stumbled upon this place as soon as we landed. I had the chicken fried steak - and WOW - it was fabulous! I then went back for breakfast the next day, and again, fabulous. So, we decided to have a late lunch, and again, fabulous. It is an open aired, second floor restaurant that serves up the best food around. The service could stand for a little improvement, but overall, just wonderful.

I went to Splasher's often when I was in Hawaii last year. The stuffed french toast and the teriyaki burger were fantastic, but the onion rings surpassed even this quality. The batter was light and flaky, and they were moist without being greasy. They were easily one of the five tastiest onion rings I've ever had. The service was friendly, the view was lovely, and the music provided great ambiance. I don't know why it's listed as not being handicap accessible, because when I went they had a lift that accommodated even my somewhat large electric scooter.

Lava Java had long wait so we eat here for breakfast. It was amazing. I really enjoyed my enchilada omelet. My husband got french toast it was so good. The view is great. Service was just O.K. Waitress did her jib but did not seem happy about it. I would go here again when in area. Free parking and coffee with meal.

I have a high standard when it comes to a good burger. Splasher's Grill serves a GOOD Burger. It was cooked the way i ordered it (med/rare) and tasted great. The onion rings were good and not greasy at all. The value was good and the service was prompt and attentive. My only gripe was the 18% added to the bill should have been labeled gratuity and not Bar 1. What is that anyway?

Really bad service. The waitress took our drink order The fish was tasty, the crab cakes sucked. This was one of the few places open on Christmas, so we took our family there for lunch. We had a group of 8, and placed our food order along with an order for 3 drinks. The restaurant was maybe half occupied. Approximately 20 minutes later, our food runner arrived with our meal; we asked about drinks and the runner went and found our server. The server arrived a few minutes later with drinks and no apology for taking so long. The food was not as expected; the fish on the fish and chips was simply breaded and fried (not a typical fish and chips dish). Crab cakes were as large as a hamburger patty but had no crab in them and tasted like pulp. The children's ham dinner (12 and under) had ham covered in a sweet pumpkin-like sauce, which is not appealing as a kids meal (at least not to our 7 year old). Burgers and salad were fine. They tacked on an automatic gratuity of 18% which would have been fine if the service and food were worth it. I would not recommend this place.

We made this dinner the first night on the Big Island and it was SUPER PACKED!! We didn't have to wait too long for a table near the bar. Our waitress was super high-energy..talked really fast, liked to forget things, and was running around everywhere. I ordered the Ocean Ono Wrap and my bf orded the Ono Tacos. DON"T GET THE ONO WRAP!! This wrap had to be the worst tasting wrap I've ever had. Which doesn't say too much because I don't usually order wraps..but STILL. The chunks of Ono fish in this wrap were monstrous..and DRY...dry like this fish had never been in the water. ever. It says it came w/ Spicy tartar sauce, but I didn't not discover this sauce until the bottom of my wrap..and didn't not discover the "spicy" part of it. period,. I had to ask the waitress for more tartar sauce. twice. Because she didn't bring it the first time. Ono tacos were better according to my bf..but he likes everything. That is why he doesn't Yelp. :) I find it hard to doubt the word of Yelp, so there must be good food somewhere here on the menu. Unfortunately, I was not able to partake in the goodness. Maybe some day I will?..but probably not.

This was an awesome place to get some yummziers food. I loved the burgers and they hands down have the BEST LAVA JAVA! I would def. recommend this place. It's not fancy or anything- kind of like Chilis or Applebees. But nonetheless- the food was good and drinks were greatt!!!

Only got fish tacos (12.99) and thought they were ok , have had better have had worse. Kind of chincy though to up charge a buck for avocado. Tacos normally come wirh fries (weird) but we were able to sub fresh steamteed vegies, which were really good actually. Salsa was very tasty but the only choices for heat are tabasco (poor choice) and sriracha sauce (good but still not Mexican). Corn torts were lightly fried in oil and would rather just have them heated. One little lemon wedge instead of lime (I'm sure they would have brought lime had we asked, and waitress remembered) Service was fair had to ask three times for water. We got a good seat on the deck and that and the happy hour $4.50 local draft brew made it all worth it .

I got the 'Captain's Platter'. Really good food, friendly service. The lightly breaded Ono truly was lightly breaded, melted in the mouth.

Dinner was A-ok. Swiss mushroom burger for me, splash burger for my husband. I really liked that we had options if fries, waffle fries or a salad for our aides. The burgers were half a pound!! The lilikoi cheesecake was to die for. The view was nice and out waitress was friendly although the hostess (or manager?) was a little too present in "hanging around". Great place for people watching. According to the board, coffee is free with purchase of a meal yet I was charged $2.50 for a cup of coffee.

OVERALL:3.4 FOOD:4 SERVICE:2 AMBIANCE:4 VALUE:3.5 Perfect place for fun, greasy bar food on Kailua Kona's main drag overlooking the water. Stopped on a Saturday mid-afternoon, and the open-window seating gave front-row views of the weekly boat races & cheering crowd. Free, live entertainment! Mainly burgers & fried food, with some local island flavor (ono, pineapple-teriyaki). Only complaint was the frenzied & flighty service (didn't ask for drink sizes, no drink checks). Charred Ono Fish Tacos (11.50 + $1.50 onion ring substitution): 2 HUGE corn tortillas overflowing with shredded romaine, pico de gallo, cheese, and loads of lush ono meat. Salsa was markedly mild, but easily fixed with a sprinkle of trusty Tabasco. ONO!! Onion rings were equally monstrous, and impressed me with the crisp, tender batter--the best onion:batter ratio and "biteability"! Since the heart was getting a run for its money, decided to save some liver energy for nighttime activity, but the umbrella drinks at the bar looked mighty lovely!

Wow. Must have been a bad night. 15 minute wait turned into 45. Many tables were open, the explanation was the kitchen was backed up. We sat, ordered our meal and waited 40 minutes. The waiter said the kitchen was caught up. Fish tacos were overrated, and the stroganoff was bland.

Went here for breakfast. Did not disappoint. Great view. Big portions... Big enough to share unless you want to walk around feeling like a Fatty McButterpants the rest of the day. My husband and I split the stuffed French toast, which also came with two eggs made your way and your choice of meat. The Portuguese sausage was delish. The French toast was made out of sweet bread, topped with a berry sauce AND coconut, and stuffed with the perfect amount of cream cheese. I also enjoyed a pineapple juice mimosa as well. People may complain the service is slow, but after living in Hawaii for several years of my life, that is the norm for most restaurants. When I come back and visit my favorite places in HI after being on the mainland, I have to remind myself that people are on "Island Time" here, and to not get impatient when my drink order takes 10 minutes. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the view!

Had a great lunch on a Saturday (Nov 3, 2012). The Works burger was so big and delicious with the right ingredients and flavor. The burger had a good grill flavor. Avocado chicken melt was yummy. It was perfectly melt with a great grill crust on the bread. Even we started to attack the burger first, the melt remained crusty and not soggy. People were friendly with great smile too.

We came here once for some drinks. Our waitress was so rude and astonished that we were not there for dinner that we decided not to order more drinks. Besides we were sick of paying $9 for a watered down mai tai. We were not going to go back until speaking to one of the waitresses at a local bar who advised that the night service kind of notoriously sucks but the morning/afternoon crew was good. She suggested we go back to try the breakfast so we did. I am so happy we did! I ordered the stuffed French toast which was so delicious and my husband ordered the enchilada omelette. He thoroughly enjoyed this as well. The breakfast plates were pricey but TOTALLY worth it! The view is very pretty and the service was MUCH better in the morning. Check these guys out!

I had read good reviews about Splasher's, and Stewart had been talking about getting a teriyaki burger with a slice of pineapple... so our lunch destination was obvious. It's a pretty tacky place, with lots of beach shack decorations, but it is more or less on the water, so it's nice sitting outside. I wouldn't recommend coming here with a large group as seating is limited. We started with a frozen Mai Tai and a frozen Margarita. Both were pretty good, and the Margarita was only $2, but you'll be high on sugar before your drunk on the alcohol. No complaints here. To eat, we ordered the daily special beer battered fish and chips, minus the chips and plus a salad. They also have fish and chips on the menu- not sure how different they are. It was fantastic. The fish had structure and was packed with flavor. THIS is what fish and chips should look like! The batter was also delicious- peppery and rich. Yum. And of course, we ordered a teriyaki burger with pineapple. We substituted onion rings for the fries. The burger was huge, as you can see, and very good. The onion rings were disappointing. Maybe they would have been better had I not had the fish first, but they just paled in comparison to the fish. If I'm ever back there again, I'll try the fries. This meal was just what I needed to complete our Hawai'i vacation. Really good greasy food, views of the ocean, people walking by in bathing suits and surf boards, and a frozen drink. Ahhh...

Used to be great at the old location but something happened when they moved upstairs. They have a great view and we spotted some dolphins in the bay while having B-fast. The food is mediocre and the service is very very slow......even if you consider the "island time" factor The locals USED to eat at the original location but not here. Looks like it is geared for the cruise ship crowd now.

This was my first time going to Kona. We took an NCL cruise that took us to Kona Island and anchored at sea. It was early in the morning, where we got to Kona. So we wanted to have some brunch and the first thing we saw was Splasher's Grill. For those taking the NCL cruise, this is probably right off the pier and in walking distance. Of course this being the first time here, it was really nice to have a place overlooking the ocean. I would say it was a nice view while eating. We were greeted and seated immediately, and the staff was really nice. My wife ordered the Loco Moco, and I had a breakfast burrito. Thinking it was a small bite, and something quick, that we would have time to finish it leave. But when the food came out, it was big portions, almost as big as my head. Same with the wife's Loco Moco, was big a big portion. Never thought I would be able to finish it, but actually I did. I guess I was that hungry. The food was great, and fulfilling. The wife's Loco Moco was also good too, according to her, but wasn't able to finish it. Overall, If I could, I would come back to this place. Highly recommended, especially if your coming off the NCL cruise. Great staff, big portion of food, at a decent price and a great view of the ocean. This is a good place to be at to eat.

This review regarding Shi*ty Grill rates the unprofessional manager and her audacity to lie to and insult her customers. Went here for the first AND LAST time for a 1pm lunch, and only ordered a salad, a hamburger, and a cup of coffee. After 40 minutes of waiting, our server comes out and apologizes for not putting in our order. To compensate, he said coffee's on the house and 10% would be taken off the bill. This is better than nothing, but on a $20 bill, that's only $2 off...Not too big of a deal even though we were hungry. In this situation at reputable establishments, normally your order would be pushed to the front to minimize any additional wait time. Our salad and hamburger should be coming out any second now... 10 minutes later now, still waiting, the manager comes out and we're thinking, okay, at least we'll get a free meal. Instead, the manager comes out apologizing and explains that they are short staffed. This makes no sense because short staffed or not, table after table around you shouldn't be served first. On top of that, our server had already informed us that he forgot to put in our order! Straight lied to our face. We were still polite but simply inquired to what the real situation was without outright asking who was lying to us (we highly doubt the server lied about forgetting to put in our order). The manager then got defensive and snapped back, "well, I already explained myself and I don't know what else you want me to do! It's nothing against you guys or anything." Thanks for the $20 view, but not for the long wait and horrible service. Oh wait, make that $25 because we still tipped your idiot server 25%. Aloha.

We had about 15 minutes to kill before our Body Glove cruise so we ran in here to grab a quick drink. I ordered a Lava Flow and the Canadian ordered a blended margarita. The waitress was really nice and told us we'd have a great time on the cruise. Mine was pretty tasty and we had to drink it fast to make sure we didn't miss our boat! Several brain freezes later, we were light headed on our way to enjoy our sunset cruise! Win!

I came here because it was easily walkable and had a view. I got pancakes, so I can hardly speak to the inventiveness and quality of the food, but I will say that the view was so nice that i didn't even mind the intermittent Bruno Mars. Seriously, it would be quiet, then a Bruno Mars song would come on, then it would be quiet again. This happened twice.

Good food :) had the fish and chips (panko battered and yummy) & had the Cajun fish special. Both good. Server was attentive and nice and helpful. Decent ocean pier view. Open late. Small beer selection, decent mixed drink selection.

I've went to splashers a few times now. Food was always pretty good nothing to complain about. Service could use a little help. Big on always having something to drink and cup has been left empty a few time. But that won't turn me away. I will return to hopefully find the waitress that will work for me. And also very reasonable pricing for the portions and area.

We really liked this place mainly for its "down home" feeling. There were lots of locals dining here, the food was good, nothing spectacular but we are not really fufu food eaters. Our waitress was very friendly and very attentive. The view is nice and there is a good breeze. The price was well within reason.

We loved it here. ate 4 times on our vacation because it was relatively cheap. got the special ahi blackened fish tacos and couldn't believe how good they were. best drinks. nicest servers. waffle fries and veggie burger with avocado was awesome to! the view is great, it's good for families. i will go next time i'm lucky enough to be in Kona! loved it!

My bf & I came here for dinner on one of our nights in Kona, since this was one of the cheaper options that was decently reviewed. From their online menu it looked like it was mostly burgers/sandwiches, but their menu in the restaurant had a few reasonably priced entrees as well. We shared the chicken fried steak ($13) and the avocado chicken melt ($12). The chicken fried steak was awesome and came with some delicious mashed potatoes. The avocado chicken sandwich was alright - the chicken was nice and juicy but the avocado tasted off and there wasn't enough of it. The service was very friendly and we enjoyed sitting outside with a view of the water. This would probably be a 3-star place elsewhere, but it's a good value for Kona and was a tasty, affordable meal.

The fish tacos were highly recommended, and they did not disappoint (that's a big deal for me, because I often order fish tacos and they often disappoint me). The terriaki veggie burger (any burger can be ordered with a veggie patty) was delicious, as well. The setting is very relaxing and comfortable, with water views from many tables. Parking can be a challenge, so scope it out first in case there is someone in your party who lacks patience (we lost a party member on our excursion).

Way above the average bar food! This place deserves 5 or more stars. Excellent service and drinks! Get the fish tacos and hummus! Better than anything you can get on oahu!

This spot was right smack across the street from where we were staying at on the island, but I do say, they have one of the best mai tai's I've had...and being that we have been drinking 10 days straight from various spots, this one isn't too bad. Their food doesn't look bad, but it honestly looks like something that came from Applebee's or Chili's. Nothing to write home about.

We love this place! We visited for 2 dinners and 1 breakfast. Hoki is the best server! My favorite thing I owe to his recommendation: fish taco plate but order it blackened and add avocado. Yum! Such an easy place and right close to where we stayed (King Kam Marriott).

Really depends on what you order here, the waffle fries and burgers are pretty good, but the fish tacos and French dip are awful. The service is great though, our waitress, Esther, had a fantastic memory and was super sweet.

We ordered fish tacos and fish sandwich. Tasted not bad except an accident happened where a bug got into the salad that came with the sandwich. We called the waitress and she had the manager came over and claimed that's an accident, which it was, then he offered us a discount of 10% which I thought it was less than fair, that's about $2 from our order. Later as we walked on we saw better deals for fish tacos along the way. Yes, there're only 2 Splasher's fish tacos for $12, and I've had better.

Ate here twice. First was a Saturday night; loved the band, and the fish was good enough that it didn't detract from a great experience: a truly memorable welcome to Kona. Second time was a Monday breakfast, and that was pretty good too. Great location.

slow to be seated. food is okay, not the best on the strip. bar is okay but slow. It was convenient for a late night drink because it was across the street from our hotel, but not at the top of the list of places to eat.

Eh... This food was bad. I had the seafood pasta. It was linguine with this white sauce. It also had jumbo prawns, scallops, and the catch of the day in it. The scallops were rubbery. The only moderately good thing was the prawns. Service was slow but friendly.

Quality: 5/6 Service: 4/5 Value: 3/4 Total: 12/15 = 4/5 The nachos are where it is at when at Splasher's! You have to place your order at the register, but they'll bring the food to your table.

Four of us ate here the other night. Slow, unfriendly service, but the food was good. We had Fish Tacos, Ono Fish and Chips, and Blue Cheese Burger. All were excellent. For dessert we shared a Fudge Brownie with icecream. The brownie was obviously burnt on the bottom and we had to send it back. The next one was just fine, and graciously delivered. Beautiful view of paddlers on Kailua Bay.

Well after flying into Kona at around 5pm on Thanksgiving Day, we had limited options as far as reservations go especially with a loud Filipino party of 11. This place made sense, it was only 6 mikes from Kona airport and they they had reservations available. Located in a tiny shopping plaza, I was kinda skeptical because it looked like a straight up burger and beer joint which would be fine any other day but today was Thanksgiving and I had to get my triptophan on. Very nice ambiance (for a burger joint) awesome pier views too, the smell let's you know exactly how close the water is in case your near sighted. So for Thanksgving dinner they had a special set menu which was decent...but hey at least they had a special menu. Also ordered the crab cakes...i hate to waste food but couldnt finish this appetizer. Food is okay, ambiance nice especially when in the Hawaii mood. I would come back, only for drinks tho.

We had all just finished ironman 70.3 the day before and were ready to splurge on something meaty, greasy, and awesome. This is exactly what we were looking for. Great burgers, great fish tacos, and good beer selection. No frills. Bare bones service. Right on the water, and you can grub while watching a selection of bikini clad ladies walk by. This is the kind of place I go to once a year, and it hit the spot.

The only thing you should order here is the Fish Taco's or the Burger. Everything else should be taken off the menu. The nicest part of this place is Maui Brewing Coconut Porter on tap. Enough said.

I must say that a had the worst meal of my life here. The service was mid good and the view is okay (Street view to bay). But if you enjoy island food, stay away from here. I hear their burgers, did not have one. Last visit for me.

While visiting Kailua-Kona, SPLASHER'S GRILL is a must-do! Located across from the Pier at Kailua Bay, the vista is panoramic, and the view is amazing from anywhere in the restaurant. Whether you're hungry for breakfast, lunch, Happy Hour, or dinner ... the quality and quantity of food cannot be beat. Originally earning their reputation for "Best Burger" in Kona -- they've now extended their hours and menu, and offer amazing breakfasts -- lunches -- and dinners -- that always rate a second, third, or more visit from tourists. They were recently voted "Best Pau Hana" (Happy Hour) in West Hawaii -- and they live up to their motto of: "Where locals meet to eat." The entire staff welcomes you with aloha ... and happily answers any questions you may have about their menu, drinks -- and even their newest addition: Snorkel boat tours ("Splasher's Ocean Adventures") that offer excitement on the water with daily departures. We've lived in Kona for nearly 8 years .... and have always been impressed with their amazing food and personal service. Come hungry -- leave happy! You can preview their extensive menu at: splashersgrillkona.com

Food is excellent . Service is getting worse. Last two times can't get a refill until going up to try and find someone that's not too busy to talk to you. Last night sandwich was made wrong. Informed hostess because server was slammed. Server never got the message. They offered a ten% discount and apology but this makes the sixth bad experience. If the food wasn't the best in town I wouldn't go back. Oh and font ask them to split a check. They can't be bothered even though I'm pretty sure the micros system they use has a button that would make it simple for them if they are bad at math. I think they don't want to pay additional credit charge fees but in 2012 it just says to me, "we don't want your business".

I had the chicken wrap & added avocado, it was delicious. I joined it with the Kona Lava Man Beer which went well. I highly recommend this place, friendly atmosphere, nice view, and decent prices. Our waitress Ester made our experience awesome by stopping by a lot and really bonding with us. Great small town friendly feel

I love Splasher Grill!!! I actually found out about this place from The Kona Boys while we were out on our kayaking trip. I was asking where a good place was to grab some lunch. Not only is the food here great, their French Toast is phenomenal!!! Huge pieces of guava passion bread about an inch thick covered in coconut syrup, light powdered sugar, pineapple, star fruit, berries, and a coconut cream spread. I thought I had died & gone to Heaven. The staff there is welcoming and if you sit at the bar you're going to have a great conversation with Gwen or Manny. Check it out and I promise you won't be disappointed.

Great burgers! Looked up the reviews and figured that we would try it out. Fast service and great drinks. The only reason they didn't get five stars was because the waitress messed the order up and my burger came with different fries than I ordered and onion on the burger. Other than that the view and food was awesome.

Splasher's didn't leave that much of an impression on me. It was good, I enjoyed it, but nothing really wowed me here. Our servers was very friendly and attentive, and the food was good. I had the mac nut crusted mahi mahi, with a pineapple sauce, veggies and rice pilaf. The fish was fresh and well cooked and was easily the best part of the meal. The rice pilaf was a bit on the bland side, as were the vegetables. I really enjoyed the pineapple sauce though. It really made the the fish go from pretty good, the great. The portions are very large, and my friends were unable to finish their Mauna Loa sized nachos that looked very good. It wouldn't be my first stop in kona, but it wouldn't be my last. The location is very good, with a nice view of the bay and open air dining which is always a plus in Hawaii.

A couple of days ago, I took my son and my adult nephew to Splasher's Grill. I had heard that they had one of the best hamburgers in the island. Pretty bold statement, so we decided to check it out. I don't care for fish or tacos so my review and purpose was for the good old American Hamburger. After all, how can fish or tacos compare to that? I mean really. The only thing that beats a good burger is a perfectly grilled ribeye steak. Anyway, I ordered the Mushroom & Onion burger while my son and nephew order some other burgers. Although, I don't know if it's the best burger in the island, since I haven't tried a lot of them on the Big Island, but I'll have to admit it was one of the best burgers I've tasted....ever. The burger itself was juicy well seasoned and tasty. We'll be going back there soon. Few days later we went to Annie's, which I also heard was really good, it was okay, better than average, but not nearly as good as Splashers.

Best Fish & Chips on the planet!!! Service was great our server Asia was fantastic, helpful, courteous, prompt and had great drink suggestions!!! As We left we forgot our hero 2 camera and Alex one of the servers ran after us across the street to return it to us, WOW he is our HERO!!! So great Ono fish, fantastic kind and honest staff. Muchas Gracias! Unforgettable experience ;)

I had a veggie burger, it was good and service as well. For vegetarians they pretty much just have veggie burgers... another night i was looking for dessert somewhere and decided to stop there again, the open sign was still on and it was a few minutes before their closing time and they said their kitchen was closed and to go to some place next door that looked really ghetto. I think they should of been able to serve us because there open sign was still on and it was still before closing and we told them we just wanted dessert...

OMG. This place was so good! We ate here on our last night in Kona. After reading all of the great reviews here on Yelp, I knew that I had to try it. Splashers is a small place, but don't let the size of it fool you because it may be small in stature, but big on taste. We ordered the Avocado Swiss Burger with waffle fries & The Works Burger (grilled onions, mushrooms, bacon, swiss & cheddar cheeses) with onion rings. They were both SO good. Both of the burgers were really tasty & HUGE on an enormous sized bun. The waffle fries were really a nice complement to the burger. The onion rings were lacking a bit in taste. They needed salt or something. I highly recommend this place for a delicious hamburger! Try it - you won't be disappointed.

My husband and I spent 10 days in Kona. There were several restaurants we can't wait to return to. Splasher's was not one of them. Yes, the prices are great. But just because the prices are great doesn't mean quality needs to lack. I ordered a crab cake and it was a previously frozen hockey puck. (It's Hawaii! No excuse for that sad of a crab cake). My husband had a burger and onion rings. The onion rings were great. But the burger did not stand up to it's hype. The place was packed 24/7 and the only reason we could think of why... is the price. The service stunk too. If you must try it out, get your self some onion rings and a coke and enjoy the view. That's really all this place has going for it.

This waterfront cafe has been voted Best Burger by the locals, and claims to have the Best Breakfast's in town as well. The space if very small, it sort of looks like a small house with a breakfast nook that overlooks the ocean. Outside, there is a small patio on which you can dine while waves crash along the seawall located across the street. Portions are large and will definitely fill you up. The pancakes are light and fluffy, perfect for a carbo loading before a long day of sight seeing. The omelets are also large and are loaded with ingredients that actually make up a meal. If you stick with the basics and try not to order to fancy here, you should be happy. And the ocean side ambiance certainly doesn't hurt.

  • Marisa N.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Heard from my brother that this place was great, and it didn't disappoint. Portions are huge, menu has a great selection of burgers and other non-burger options, they serve margaritas and beers etc, and prices are fair. I ordered an avocado and swiss burger, with some crisscut fries. It was HUGE. I could barely eat half of the burger. Most restaurants would skimp you on the avocado, but there was so much avocado on my burger that I had to pull it off and eat it with a fork. LOVE THAT. Restaurant itself is verrrry small. Try to come at an off-peak time, because there are no more than 8 tables. We made a makeshift table outside which ended up working out great. Last, the service is great. Everyone there was extremely helpful, and friendly, which always makes good food even better. A+++

Outdoor living & drinking...how great is that! We stopped for an early lunch & managed to get breakast pancakes (ends @ 11 a.m.) and a scrumptious avocado Swiss burger with well-cooked waffle fries. The coconut syrup made the pancakes melt-in-your-mouth-fine! Christine was super friendly & shared info on beaches, happy hour, and island warmth! Ask for their 10% VIP card and check out the view! Update: 8/2011 The move of location either affected the food or me...probably me. While the view remains awesome and the amount of food per plate can easily be split between 2, I found watching the Love Boat People disembark less than tasty.

Had the Ono salad with a thai vinegar dressing. It had 2 big pieces. Also tried their mahi with shrimp beurre blanc sauce. That was super good, and the rice was tasty (and I usually dont get excited about rice). Gotta go back for their fish tacos!

We just spent two weeks on the Big Island, and went surfing along the Kona Coast. We decided to try Splashers Grill for a late breakfast / early lunch. IT WAS GREAT! I had the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict with a side of their homemade Portuguese Sausage - totally awesome. The crab cakes were delicious (I read that some Yelpers thought them less than satisfactory, but mine were superb), and the eggs were cooked to that "just runny" stage. Talk about OUTSTANDING! My son had the Steak and Eggs. The ribeye was a good size, tasty and cooked medium rare - just the way he ordered it. I ordered a couple of cocktails from the Tiki Bar, and my son had a taste of their local Big Wave Golden Ale (we were on vacation after all). The drinks were generous and the beer was frosty cold. The service was more than friendly and most attentive. In fact, I was so blown away by the service, the meal and the view (what's not to love) that I bought a Splashers baseball hat as a souvenir. We recommended the restaurant to a few of our cousins who were vacationing Waikoloa. They found themselves in Kona a few days later and dropped by Splashers Grill for dinner. They said the meal and service were "first rate." They all raved about their dinners with encomiums like, "Huge Portions, Great View, Delicious, and Fantastic!" We're converts!

We were in Waikoloa for vacation & drove into Kailua to sight see. A local recommended Splashers to us for breakfast. We actually went there for lunch. It was a really good choice. I had the fish tacos & my bf had fish & chips. We found out after-the-fact, that they were known for their burgers. I would say that the restaurant was good, especially for that part of Ali'i Dr, but not the best in the area. Def better than Tantra down the street. The Big Island Grill is on the street behind there. I've heard that it's a little bit more authentic. Still not a bad choice, though. It's across from the water with open-air seating.

It is a shame when a great little place loses track of what made them great. The food. This used to be one of our favorites, and our first stiopin Kona when it was a tiny hole in the wall on Alii Drive with great food and a frozen Mai Tai maker. Now they moved to a much larger place down the street on the corner across form the King Kam hotel. Yet somehow in a place 5 times larger than the old one with a full bar, they told us they could not fit the mai tai machine? Life goes on without a frozen mai tai. So we ordered our stand by fish and chips, which are usually wonderful pieces of Ono. That was Tuesday, and they were a little dry, but there was a tsunami here recently so maybe the fish have not been around so much. Then we went back saturday to give them another chance, and whatever they tried to serve me in the fish and chips was NOT Ono. It was frozen cod like you get at McDonalds. So I stopped and asked, "is this supposed to be Ono?" And they insisted it was. I wish they wold have told the truth. It did not look like Ono, taste like Ono or flake like Ono. In fact if you know what an Ono (Wahoo) looks like they are tubular fish. They cut in loins os steaks, they do not cut in fillets like a Halibut or Cod. What they served me were big flat fillets of something. So it's one thing to serve me a lesser fish when you run out, at least tell me. But to then lie about it and try to play me for a dumb tourist is the last straw. I'm glad they took it off my bill and all said goodbye, because we will never go back to Splashers.

Good food, great location. Very friendly service. You order at the counter, and pick it up when it's ready. There are a limited number of tables, of course, but you might be able to squeeze in at the counter overlooking the street and ocean. There's no parking on the street, really, but there's a public parking lot about half a block away. One gets the feeling that this is where the locals come.

We stayed at the King Kam hotel directly across the street and had an early dinner, the views were great and the food and service were great also. I ordered the grilled mahi-mahi, my wife got the tuna and the kids got burgers. We all loved our portions (which were good size) and the whole atmosphere. I would definetley go there again.

I'm in Hawaii on a working vacation. Do you know what that is? Is there really such thing as a working vacation? I've been to several different states / places in the USA under terms similar to a working vacation. There's something about working in a tourist town while also thinking you will enjoy being there because it's a destination for people actually on vacation. It's not the same. Someone will show you around the places that tourists go but you wont be doing any of that, you've got work to do. I was there Four and a half weeks on my work vacation. Hawaii is hot and humid, OK for vacation, not so great for swinging a hammer. I'm rambling... am I rambling. You don't care about this. I have had the pleasure of eating at one of the best breakfast, lunch and dinner places on the Island - "Splashers Bar and Grill". It just happens to be owned by the people that my brother and I contracted a tile job with at their house on the hill. This is why we ended up eating here and I'm very happy to say it was very good. The usual Chicken Fried Steak for breakfast was awesome but the Bloody Marry was the best I've ever had. For the occassional lunch I liked the Turkey Melt with waffle cut fries. I know it's just a sandwich but gawd it was great. With lunch I had their famous Mai Tai. This is no ordinary Mai Tai. This is strong, cold and more like a summer treat. Drink one and feel nothing (if sitting down)... Drink two and still feel nothing (sitting still)... Drink three... (stand up) and whoaaaaaa, did you feel that??? Are the waves smashing against the side of this place? These will rock your world. The Mai Tai's look like a coconut slushy with Meyers Rum poured over the top. Actually, I think that's what they are. You're gonna feel these even after just one let alone three. When in Hawaii, on the big island, in Kailua, you must eat at this modest little restaurant on the sidewalk. Just walk right in and order. The view - you look out over the ocean from across the street while people watching. The food? great, and the drinks? are made by a true believer in "Give the people what they want". Owners - Indie and Jerry are nice people running a clean kitchen making great food and drink at a great price with a fun atmosphere for locals and tourists. Everybody is treated like a local at this place. Rumor has it, Keith Richards (Rolling Stone's) loves this place. I would not be surprised. What's not to like???

A nice location right in the middle of everything, with a view of the ocean and outdoor seating. Service was friendly and timely. That being said, the food was ok. We went here our first night in Kona, and were really looking forward to some good seafood and mai tais. I order ahi...rare, which it was definitely not. Not even a little bit. The mai tais were nothing to write home about. We had better pretty much everywhere else. There are so many places to eat in this area, I'd go with one of your other options.

Arrived in Kailua Kona on the weekend of the Iron Man Championships when the town was overflowing with tourists. Despite the crush of people at Splashers, I think the food and service was good for a waterfront place in a tourist location serving bar food to the sun burnt. We had the Ono wrap and Jungle wrap (both fish wraps) with greasy onion rings. The wraps were pretty good, the beer was cold and there was a nice breeze at the bar. Splashers was OK, 3 stars is kind of just right for them.

We had lunch here today, and it was a very enjoyable experience overall. The Splasher's Grill restaurant staff was very friendly, and service was also very good. I had a Splash Burger -- basically, a cheeseburger, very generously-sized, juicy and a little bit peppery, with fresh lettuce and tomato -- and their beer batter onion rings (fried to very good crunchy, and still glistening with oil). They have lots of burger options on the menu, and it's convenient that you can substitute a veggie patty on any of them. My husband had a vegetarian avocado burger, which was so big that he could barely get it into his mouth for a bite. His waffle fries were good, but I have had better. The larger tables outside (which comfortably seat 4-5) are almost universally half-shaded, so if you are going for lunch, some of your party must be willing to get some extra sun. Their $2 fountain drinks are ENORMOUS and come in one size -- one size fits all. And by all, I mean you could split one among everyone in your group. Well, or one drink for every 3.

We stayed across the street at king Kamehameha's Kona beach hotel, and ate breakfast every day here for a week. Staff was very friendly and food was very good. Much cheaper then the hotel buffet. The morning view is great to set the mood for a great outdoor day. We ate dinner here too, but ventured out more for those meals. When we did eat dinner there it was also very good. Splashers is definitively a high recommendation, a great meal at an even better price.

On our first night in Hawaii the hotel staff at Kona Seaside recommended this place. I'll have to admit that I was skeptical since the hotel staff did recommend it (I've not always had luck with those kinds of recommendations), but my husband and I were pleasantly surprised at how decent the food was. I had grilled ono and veggies (my husband doesn't remember what he had to eat that night) and they were excellent. I also want to mention that we had the best Mai Tais that we have ever had! Overall, it was a good experience.

When we want fish & chips in Kona, this is where we go! A small, crowded, street side joint, across from the sea wall in a blue building. A real blue building. No discretion here. The restaurant is small, with three or four tables inside (OK, things you put bar stools around!) and five or six real tables out front and outside, where, you stare at the people walking down Alii Drive, you stare at the bay across the street, and you stare at the fabulous sunset happening right in front of you. And then you take a sip of your drink... and then you stare some more. Wait, this is supposed to be about fish and chips. They are great! You get three huge fillets and a bunch of fries. The batter covering the firm fleshed white fish is crisp and crunchy. The fish is about a half inch thick and moist. The fries are thick cut and good, this coming from a non-french fry fan. And the tartar sauce, rich, creamy and loaded with dill. Just right for the fish or dipping the occasional fry into. They also serve burgers and other stuff, but for the past two years, I've only had the fish and chips. Oh, they also serve beer and Mai Tais so you can sit and stare... and sip your drink and stare...

Too bad there's not half a star option. My sister and I went there to cool off with a cold drink. Worst frozen margarita ever. I don't usually order frozen drinks as a rule anyway, but they can't always be this bad. It was too sweet and little if any tequila. We were there at five minutes to 3, Happy Hour starts at 3. Snooty waiter says too bad for us, no specials unless we want to wait. Right. We didn't stay to try any food. There was a cruise ship in, so maybe the crowds make them cranky.

We stayed at the King Kam hotel across the street from this restaurant. We ate both a breakfast and a lunch here -- both were good and prompt. Waitress and all staff were very friendly. Great views of the harbor and ocean. Good for food or just to hang out and have cocktails. We would gladly return

Great food, wonderful view of the bay and a great waitress made for a memorable evening. The mahimahi was fresh and well prepared. The waitress, Asia, was friendly and helpful...attentive as well.

Portions here are HUGE and the ordered/food delivery is a little cumbersome. We ordered the nachos which they kindly substituted mushrooms for meat but they were ENORMOUS!! We asked for chips and salsa but they only offered us the naches (despite many signs about their famous salsa....). I got the fish tacos which were a bit fish-y and my husband got a veggie wrap which looked good but also quite big. SHARE a meal. The staff were very friendly. Bathroom is around the back and requires a key - a bit sketchy.

The hubby and I came in during a stroll on Ali'i drive. We split a Chipotle Bacon Cheeseburger and a Jalapeno Cheeseburger with some french fries and onion rings. Some of the best burgers I've ever had. The chipotle burger took the medal though. Onion rings were fairly good. The batter was flavorful, but it overpowerd the taste of the onions too much. BIG Portions. Nice view of the bay if you're sat on the balcony. Friendly service. We'd be back if we're ever back in Kona

Good beer, great food, difficult parking. I went here for dinner on a Saturday night. Parking attendant was very nice but the lot was tiny and I had to cram the full size rental car in somehow. Service was good. Food quantity was generous. We both ordered the mac-nut crusted mahi-mahi with veggies and rice. Fish was great, veggies done perfectly. Overall a good time.

Loved it! This is my favorite restaurant in town. Decent food, friendly staff, we paid around $50. The only thing I don't like , it's their crabcakes.

    (5)
  • Kekai A.

I ordered the crab cakes and was expecting big pieces of lump crab for some reason. I suspect the crab cakes were the frozen kind you can buy at the market because they looked so uniformed and tasted more like bread crumbs and very tiny slivers of imitation crab and a few red peppers. It was overcooked on the outside and totally mushy inside. Thank god their blended strawberry margarita was very good, not too sweet and not too tart. $10.99 for 3 crabcakes wasn't worth it! Should've just had another margarita instead. I was there for drinks and appetizer at 2:00 p.m. (no lunch crowd) and the service was very attentive! I am giving this 3 stars for the awesome margaritas and service. Next time I'll try a burger, which looked delish at the next table! I think the margarita all depends on who's bartending because reading the review before mine, sounded like their margarita sucked.

Many places with better food on the island and in the kona downtown. We went here on recommendation from our hotel as having traditional Hawaiian food- so not the case. Plus, the fish in fish and chips was frozen - who wants frozen fish on the big island?

We love Splasher's. The location and view is awesome. It's hard to beat the burgers here, but other things are good as well. The prices are also reasonable for Kona and their location. Yah gotta try it!

Aloha.

  • Nick C.

  • Mitchell F.

  • Kate K.

We stayed at the King Kam hotel across the street from this restaurant. We ate both a breakfast and a lunch here -- both were good and prompt. Waitress and all staff were very friendly. Great views of the harbor and ocean. Good for food or just to hang out and have cocktails. We would gladly return

Reasonable prices, great food, nice view. Service was good (my water cup never went empty, my litmus test). Half pound burger with nice warm, soft bun. Kids menu had the basics. I wanted to return but too many restaurants, too little time. Will be back next time.

The bar is certainly nothing special, and actually smells a little funky, the food is well above average. The fish and chips are some of the best I've ever had and their nachos appetizer is rather epic. Our waiter was a little short on patience, helpfulness and personality, but we weren't there to make friends.

GORGEOUS view, super-sweet staff, and delicious food! I got the eggs benedict with tomato and avocado--YUM! Came with hashbrowns and I asked for fruit on the side, yum yum yum. Probably the best food I've had in Kona town. Hope to be back again at some point!

We came here for breakfast and it was horrible. Everything we ordered was oily. We had the simple splash - sausage, 2 eggs over medium, and potatoes- crabcakes and eggs- the crab cakes were cooked from frozen, it was not fresh at all! We had to dab the excess oil with a napkin!

Mmmm! SO good! The fish sandwiches are the best and they're big enough for 2! I ate here a bunch of times on my last trip! Service was hit and miss. One of the young gals was unusually unfriendly but the other waitresses were great.

Real big good burgers. This is where I go when I am craving a burger. Awesome onion rings. The location and vibe of the place is very pleasant.

Would go again. Better choice than Quinns by the Sea. Service was good and food was tasty. Had the blackened ono sandwich and the wife got Ono fish tacos.

The food tasted fresh and delicious, the portions were generous, the service was great and fast, prices were reasonable and we had an ocean view table. We couldn't ask for more, five stars and we will definitely come back!
